Victoria Principal’s Maid Drops Suit

Actress Victoria Principal has settled a lawsuit with her former maid. The maid, Maribel Banegas, issued a formal letter of apology to Principal. Banegas claimed her boss flew into a rage at her Malibu home, fired the maid and then pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her.

Principal counterclaimed against Banegas, claiming the maid was crazy, slamming doors, hurting her dog and demanding money. Victoria says she pulled the gun and cocked it out of fear.

In the letter of apology, Banegas says, “I can now understand why you felt that I was threatening to you, which, in turn, led you to defend yourself.” She went on, apologizing for “any unintentional injury to your little dog, Mei-ling.”

The terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Victoria Principal Fights Back

Yesterday, we reported about a lawsuit filed against actress Victoria Principal by her former maid. (An aside: Victoria Principal dated now-deceased Andy Gibb back in the day. I loved Andy Gibb. Sigh.)

Today, TMZ reports that Principal has filed her own suit. In those legal docs, Principal admits she did pull a gun on her former maid, but only after the maid threatened her and injured her dog.

Principal says on December 26, 2008, the maid was told she was fired and flew into a rage and “repeatedly slammed the back door with such force that…the door frame itself was damaged.” She claims the maid struck and injured another maid in the house, then grabbed Victoria’s small dog and left the house.

An hour later, Principal called the maid on the cell phone, demanding the return of the dog. A short time later, the maid returned to the house roughly dragging the dog by its leash. She alleges the maid was screaming, “Give me money.”

Scared, Principal says she got her handgun and told the maid to leave. The maid allegedly continued to carry on until Principal cocked the gun. The maid locked herself in the guest house and was later removed by Sheriff’s deputies.

Maribel Banegas, a former maid at actress Victoria Principal’s Malibu home, has sued the former Dallas star for assault, false imprisonment and emotional distress. Banegas claims she took Principal’s dog for a walk and, upon returning to the house, was confronted by Principal who was upset that the walk took too long.

Banegas allegedly told Principal that she had been waiting for the dog to take a dump. Prinicipal apparently didn’t believe her and fired her. Banegas claims that she asked for her paycheck and Principal returned with a gun instead of a check. The suit claims that Principal aimed the gun at Banegas and threatened to kill her.

No word on why Banegas didn’t report the incident to police.

UPDATE: TMZ says that the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. said the maid contacted them almost two weeks later, on January 9, 2009, claiming Principal had assaulted her. The matter was investigated, sent to the L.A. County D.A., and the case was rejected based on “insufficient evidence.”
