O’Neal had been undergoing in-patient rehab since September.

At a hearing Tuesday, Judge Michael Tynan ordered Redmond, 24, into a 30-day jail rehab facility pending a Feb. 2 progress report.

“It seems to me you haven’t got a clue as to what recovery means,” Judge Tynan lectured. “It’s a lifetime commitment. It’s grinding, hard, painful work.”

Redmond O’Neal told the court via letter that his relapse was related to family issues.

Despite his latest arrest, Redmond’s lawyer Richard Pintal said he was “confident” he could keep his client out of prison. The younger O’Neal has been arrested multiple times for drug charges over the years.

He was ordered to a drug rehab program at Wayside Honor Ranch. It is in-custody treatment. If he fails to complete rehab successfully, O’Neal will face up to four years in prison.

Prosecutor Tony Estradas spoke directly to O’Neal in court, saying: “Redmond O’Neal, welcome to drug court. This is an opportunity for you to change your life. If you successfully complete the program, any outstanding cases, past convictions, probation, will be dismissed and cleared from your record.”

“The program will take at least one year. During that time you will work with counselors. You will submit to drug tests, one-on-one counseling, a 12-step program. You will come to court frequently. People will help you. As part of this program, you must have a job, or schooling to help you get a job.”

“We don’t want you to be in jail, we want you to beat your addiction. If you fail to comply with your counselors, you could be sanctioned with writing an essay, community service, or jail.”

O’Neal, son of actors Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett, was then ordered back to court on May 28 for a progress report.

Come on.

Perez Hilton is under the false impression that an initial “not guilty” plea is some sort of indication that a criminal defendant wants people to believe he is innocent. And, as we mentioned here earlier, that’s just not the case. It makes for a dramatic blog post, sure. But it’s inaccurate and untruthful.

This afternoon, Perez reported that Redmond O’Neal pleaded not guilty to his newest drug charges. Perez says: “O’Neal must be suffering delusion or bitchassness! The former rehaber just pleaded Not Guilty on Wednesday in a Los Angeles County courthouse to his felony drug charges. Let’s guess, the drugs found on him, weren’t his. They were a friend’s?”

Dude. Calm down. Like we mentioned before, a “not guilty” plea at this point just means that he’s not ready to plead guilty. He can certainly go to trial if he wants to and if it’s appropriate. But even if he eventually pleads guilty (which he probably will do), he’s gonna start off with a “not guilty” plea. It just allows everyone involved more time to dig into the case and decide how best to resolve it.

Mountain out of less than a mole hill. Relax, Perez.

O’Neal had just dropped off two friends who were going to visit an incarcerated friend when he was stopped in the parking lot.

O’Neal was reportedly found in possession of heroin and Xanax (presumable without a prescription). He is already in violation of his recent methamphetamine probation because he skipped out on court-ordered rehab last week.

Sadly, O’Neal is just 24 years old and his mother, Fawcett, is reportedly dying of cancer.
