Corey Edmondson filed the lawsuit against the former Tennessee Titan in Williamson County, Tennessee (just outside of Nashville) last week.

The collision occurred last December on Interstate 65. The police report indicates that Haynesworth was driving a black Ferrari, weaving in and out of lanes, passing cars and speeding. At some point, Haynesworth allegedly tried to pass Edmondson but couldn’t. The Ferrari made contact with Edmondson’s car and caused it to slam into a concrete barrier.

Haynesworth was charged with reckless driving and driving a vehicle with expired registration. The collision occurred just four days after Haynesworth appeared before a Williamson County judge and was placed on supervised probation for driving more than 100 miles per hour on I-65 in March 2008. Part of the conditions of Haynesworth’s probation was that he not commit any new offenses for 30 days.

Prosecutors were apparently not aware of the new charges until after the 30 days had passed – so no probation violation.

Edmondson has had two surgeries, including a hip replacement. TheNashville paper reports that Edmondson weighs 400 pounds and has trouble moving around and rarely leaves his home. Edmondson said that before the accident he was “light on my feet” and helped a friend run a cleaning business.

The lawsuit states that Edmondson’s medical bills could be more than $1 million after another surgery, therapy, hospitalization, home health nursing, handicap accessible accommodations and other expenses.

Interesting damages case actually. My guess is that Haynesworth’s lawyers will argue that the hip replacement was due to the 400 pounds and not to the collision. Haynesworth is the highest paid defensive player in the NFL though – this will likely get settled out of court.
