Rapper Flo Rida was arrested for drunk driving in Miami Beach this morning. According to law enforcement, Flo Rida was driving his red and black Bugatti (a car ridiculously worth $1.7) when officers pulled him over for swerving his lane at 3:30am.

The officers allegedly detected the odor of alcohol and gave the rapper a field sobriety test. Looks like he didn’t perform so well.

He was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Reportedly, Flo’s blood alcohol level was more than double the legal limit. (His legal name, by the way? Tramar Dillard.)

Remember last weekend when we told you about the lawsuit against Britney Spears over a perfume deal (the one where her lawyers said she was incompetent to give a deposition)? Well, looks like Brit is fighting back.

Britney (via her conservator / father and lawyers) has filed a cross-complaint, claiming that Brand Sense (the company suing her) never gave an accounting for how much money she should have received for the sale of a perfume. Her court documents say that Brand Sense withheld Britney’s share of the proceeds for months and failed to pay her interest on the delayed payments.

This whole fight started when Brand Sense sued Britney, claiming she cut them out of her deal with Elizabeth Arden. Britney denies that’s the case.

Brand Sense Partners is suing Britney Spears for $10 million. They claim she cut them out of a lucrative deal with Elizabeth Arden, despite an agreement to the contrary.

Lawyers for Brand Sense want to take Britney’s deposition. Her lawyers have refused, on the legal grounds that she is currently under a conservatorship which because of issues with her competency. They argue that she cannot be compelled to testify under oath without the okay of the conservatorship’s attorneys and/or the court.

The conservatorship attorneys have apparently not signed off and now Brand Sense is going to court to seek a court order to require Britney to give her depo. (Her dad is still legally her conservator, giving him authority and guardianship over her finances – subject to oversight by the court and attorneys, because of her mental health issues several years ago.)

A California judge has ordered Courtney Love to pay more than $35,000 to two former maids. The maids – Miriam and Myriam – claimed that Love never paid them for cleaning her home several years ago.

The judgment requires Love to pay $16,632.45 to Miriam and $19,137.27 to Myrium for unpaid wages, penalties and interest. Though the judgment has been entered, the maids still have the task of collecting the judgment – which can often be more difficult than winning the lawsuit.

Current Incubus DJ Chris Kilmore sought a restraining order against the former DJ for Incubus Gavin Koppell this week. Kilmore says that Koppell is still bitter that he was replaced in the band.

According to court documents filed last week in L.A. County Superior Court, Kilmore says Koppell threatened to kill him last month over something that happened in 2003. Kilmore obtained a restraining order against Koppel back in 2003 after Koppell allegedly spit in Kilmore’s face.

Kilmore replaced Koppell in the band in 1998.

Kilmore now alleges that Koppell approached him in a store and said, “You will get killed if you don’t lift that order … people get killed in the street for that.” Kilmore also claims Koppell, “asked me to fight him right there and raised his fists to me.”

According to the restraining order, Koppell has been ordered to stay at least 100 yards from Kilmore and his girlfriend.

Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, has subpoenaed medical and other records from the UCLA Medical Center because he believes the records could reveal evidence of foul play in Jackson’s death. Unfortunately for Joe Jackson, the subpoenas were issued in the probate case and appear to be irrelevant.

Michael Jackson’s estate lawyers clearly think so, according to a letter sent by them to Joe Jackson’s attorney last week. The subpoenas seek the release of all of Michael Jackson’s including medical records, autopsy reports, autopsy photos, medications and prognosis assessments.

Joe Jackson told gossip website TMZ that the entire Jackson family supports the subpoenas and believes that the medical records will reveal that Michael Jackson’s death was the result of foul play. Regardless of whether the Jackson family “supports” the subpoenas, the law still has to allow them.

Joe Jackson is a party to the probate estate case as a result of his Petition for Family Allowance – i.e., he wants to be supported by Michael’s estate. Michael’s estate attorneys basically represent and protect Michael (and his money). If Michael’s children (or the guardians and attorneys on their behalf) choose to file a wrongful death claim against anyone, that is likely the only civil forum in which Michael’s medical records will be properly subpoenaed to prove cause of death.

What drugs were present in Michael’s system is, in my opinion, completely irrelevant to whether Joe Jackson should be granted support payments from Michael’s estate.

Legendary soul singer James Brown died two and a half years ago. If you recall, his family started fighting immediately and he wasn’t even buried for two months because of their bickering and legal maneuvering. About six months later, the family started making claims that millions of dollars were missing from Brown’s estate. They claimed that trustees had mismanaged funds.

In 2008, Brown’s older children and others went to court, questioning whether his marriage in 2001 to Tomi Rae Hynie Brown was even legal and whether his son with her was really legitimate. These two issues would have huge inheritance implications.

The estate has finally been settled this week. On Tuesday, a South Carolina judge approved a settlement giving nearly half of Brown’s assets to a charitable trust. A quarter was given to Tomi and their young son, and the rest to Brown’s six adult children.

Unlike most probate estates, this wasn’t just a fight over existing assets. Brown’s estate, due to his fame and music, will continue to earn income in the future. And that money will be divided going forward.

Liberty DeVitto, longtime drummer for Billy Joel, has filed a lawsuit against the Piano Man for unpaid royalties. He claims that Joel hasn’t paid him royalties for the last 10 years. Columbia Records/Sony Music are also defendants in the suit.

DeVitto was abruptly fired by Joel and thrown out of the backing band in 2005. DeVitto had been with Joel since 1975.

He believes he was kicked out for taking part in an intervention with Joel over his addictions. Joel checked into an alcohol rehab center later that year.

It is unclear why DeVitto waited so long to file suit.

Britney Spears’ former bodyguard Kerry Vine filed a lawsuit against the pop star this week. In the suit, Vine claims he sustained physical injuries while working at her former home at the Summit in Beverly Hills in March 2008. He also sued the security company with which Spears contracted (Vine’s actual, legal employer).

“Advanced Security Concepts negligently operated their business thereby causing injuries to [Vine] who worked for [Spears] at the time,” Vine’s attorney, Charles Swain, wrote in the complaint. “[Spears] breached that duty of care to the plaintiff by failing to ensure that he could safely perform duties that Advanced Security Concepts ordered him to perform.”

Vine is suing Spears for personal injury, battery and negligence for which he claims he has suffered lost wages, medical and hospital costs, and loss of personal property and earning capacity. I’m not sure exactly what happened – but it seems to be a pretty run-of-the-mill personal injury claim that will be handled by insurance defense attorneys. Any judgment or settlement will most likely be paid out of insurance funds.

The next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.

Attorney Blair Berk is busy these days. Berk is representing rapper Kanye West on misdemeanor vandalism, battery and grand theft charges arising out of a skirmish with paparazzi at LAX last September.

Kanye pleaded not guilty to those charges last week. He was not present in court. His plea was entered by Berk.

West’s road manager, Don Crawley, was also charged and also pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley.

Eight months ago, the two were arrested for the altercation while attempting to catch a flight to Honolulu. Video of the incident showed both men wrestling a camera away from a photographer, with each smashing parts of it into the ground.

Crawley also allegedly smashed a second photographer’s camera.
