She filed a lawsuit earlier this week against Hugh Hefner and other Playboy execs, claiming age discrimination. Lewis claims she was fired after she turned 47 and replaced by a 33-year-old woman.

She apparently worked at the Mansion for over ten years but was “singled out” last year and subjected to a hostile work environment. This should be interesting and may well hinge on exactly what her job description entailed. We shall see….

Donald Trump’s attorneys argued to allow his defamation suit against a journalist to proceed. They claim that Timothy O’Brien damaged Trump’s reputation by asserting that the business icon is not a billionaire.

Lawyers for O’Brien and his publishing company Warner Books denied that O’Brien’s book cost Trump any business opportunities and asked a New Jersey judge to dismiss the suit. The judge has taken the matter under advisement and will rule by mid-summer.

O’Brien wrote “Trump Nation: The Art of Being the Donald” and cited three unnamed sources estimating Trump’s worth at $150 million to $250 million. According to statements recently made to the Wall Street Journal, Trump believes he is worth $5 billion, without consideration for the value of his name. In a deposition in the O’Brien case, Trump apparently estimated his net worth at $4 billion.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Deutsche Bank estimated Trump’s net worth in 2005 as $788 million. The bank calculated that amount in the underwriting of a $640 million construction loan for a Trump development in Chicago.

Trump’s suit claims that his reputation was damaged by statements in the book such as those calling Trump the “court jester of the American business scene”.

One of O’Brien/Warner’s more interesting defenses? Trump couldn’t have been damaged too badly because the book didn’t sell very well.

Stern and two doctors pleaded not guilty Wednesday to conspiring to provide the drugs that killed Anna Nicole Smith in 2007.

Stern, Smith’s reported boyfriend and lawyer, her physician Sandeep Kapoor, and her neighbor/psychiatrist Kristine Eroshevich entered the pleas in Los Angeles Superior. Defense attorneys believe the preliminary hearing will last at least two weeks, and they have filed a motion asking the case be dismissed. (Two weeks is long for a criminal trial, never mind a simple preliminary hearing…)

Prosecutors claim that the three conspired to use fake names to prescribe huge amounts of prescription drugs, including methadone, clonazepam and chloral hydrate, to an addict.

The business and another man are also named as defendants.

The suit was filed a few weeks ago in San Diego by Shelly Scott and Gillian Walker. They claim they were fired from their waitress jobs for refusing the sexual advances of Gerber and restaurant managers.

According to the legal docs, Gerber attempted to kiss one of the women three times on one night in 2008 and then put his hand up her dress and attempted to “fondle her crotch.”

On one occasion in 2008, while working at the Moonstone Lounge located in the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, one of the women claims Gerber attempted to kiss her three times during the night, then “put his hand up [her] dress in between her legs in an attempt to fondle her crotch.”

Spokespeople for Gerber say, “These allegations were previously investigated and shown to be baseless,” adding, “This lawsuit has no merit.”

Gerber is a successful bar and restaurant owner in several cities. He and Crawford have been married for 11 years and have two kids.

Marjorie Linden claims that the bathroom floor was covered in standing pools of urine and feces and that the only functional toilet had no locking door.

In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles, Linden claims she had to use one of her hands to hold the door closed while she used the toilet. She claims that, while she was still on the commode, another woman pulled the door open which caused Linden to fall face first to the floor. Ew.

Linden claims that she broke her back and injured her knee in the fall – and also suffered serious mental damage. Oh, I’m sure.

Spago’s mouthpieces dispute that the bathroom was in poor (or disgusting) working order.

It took the jury just over a day to decide in favor of former Morton’s and Hard Rock owner Peter Morton. Morton was being sued by his ex-wife for $10 million. Tarlton Morton alleged that Peter defrauded her out of more the $10 million in stock in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

She also claimed that Peter hired private investigators to stalk and harass her.

The jury decidedly unanimously (which is not required in civil cases) that Morton did not breach any fiduciary duty to his ex, nor did they believe that he invaded his ex-wife’s privacy.

Morton co-founded the Hard Rock Café chain, which was sold in 1995, and the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, which was sold in 2006. His famous Hollywood restaurant, Morton’s, closed in 2007. He has recently produced a few movies.

Peter and Tarlton Morton married in 1990 but divorced seven years later. In their original prenuptial agreement, Tarlton would have received a $100,000 trust fund for each year the two remained married. When the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Vegas was being planned, that section of the prenup was amended and Morton offered his wife a 1% stake in the hotel instead.

After their divorce, Tarlton asked Morton to buy out her share in 2004. His accountants valued it at $451,000 and Morton paid her that amount for her stock.

The hotel sold two years later for $770 million. Her 1 to 1.67 percent stake would have given Tarlton over $11 million. in 2006, she realized the sale would have given her over $11 million. She filed suit against Morton in January 2007, claiming that she was not shown a cover letter from the bank explaining that the valuation was for tax purposes — not an attempt to assess the stock’s likely price at sale.

She claims that, after she filed suit, she began being followed and harassed. Morton’s family law attorneys did hire a private investigator to obtain proof that she was doing drugs. (The Mortons have minor children together.)

One picky, lawyerly note: The article I originally read about this verdict said, “Morton Not Guilty of Defrauding, Harassing Ex-Wife.” Civil juries do not decide guilt. They decide liability. Guilt is a criminal law concept. Be accurate in your reporting and in your headlines!
