Former NFL player Travis Henry was arrested earlier today in Florida for a bond violation. A U.S. magistrate ruled that he will remain in federal custody.
Henry and a co-defendant were arrested in Denver in October, after authorities in Montana found 6 pounds of marijuana and about 6.6 pounds of cocaine that Henry apparently sold. Federal investigators said Henry trafficked cocaine between Colorado and Montana and that one of his associates had delivered 6 pounds of cocaine to Montana on prior occasions.
Henry was a running back for the Denver Broncos at the time of his arrest but was subsequently released by the team. He signed a plea deal with prosecutors last month and pleaded guilty to a single cocaine conspiracy charge to possess at least 11 pounds of cocaine with intent to distribute the drug. He faces up to 10 years in federal prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 15.
Defense attorneys for Henry secured his pre-sentencing release in order for him to deal with pending child support cases. Henry, who is 30 years old, has 11 children by 10 different women. He was arrested March 3 on charges he owed $16,600 in child support payments. He was released again on March 18 but has three court hearings scheduled this month related to child support.
Henry’s bond violation was apparently a positive test for alcohol, which is prohibited under the terms of his release.
