Redmond O’Neal appeared in court yesterday for a probation violation hearing. He was ordered to a drug rehab program at Wayside Honor Ranch. It is in-custody treatment. If he fails to complete rehab successfully, O’Neal will face up to four years in prison.
Prosecutor Tony Estradas spoke directly to O’Neal in court, saying: “Redmond O’Neal, welcome to drug court. This is an opportunity for you to change your life. If you successfully complete the program, any outstanding cases, past convictions, probation, will be dismissed and cleared from your record.”
“The program will take at least one year. During that time you will work with counselors. You will submit to drug tests, one-on-one counseling, a 12-step program. You will come to court frequently. People will help you. As part of this program, you must have a job, or schooling to help you get a job.”
“We don’t want you to be in jail, we want you to beat your addiction. If you fail to comply with your counselors, you could be sanctioned with writing an essay, community service, or jail.”
O’Neal, son of actors Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett, was then ordered back to court on May 28 for a progress report.
