Rapper Lil Wayne got sued last year for copyright infringement, accused of failing to get appropriate permissions to sample music from folk singer Karma-Ann Swanepoel’s song Once. The samples were used in Lil Wayne’s track I Feel Like Dying.
Wayne has now dragged a third party into the suit, accusing the song’s producer Rebel Rock Productions Inc of failing to get the okay for use of the song. The rapper claims that the production company was responsible for securing the proper permissions and licenses.
I haven’t seen the legal docs but I imagine that this is all part in parcel of the same lawsuit and that Wayne’s attorneys filed a third-party petition. All the claims will be taken care of in one suit.
Rebel Rock has yet to respond to Wayne’s suit.
