Former WBA welterweight boxing champ Antonio Margarito filed suit against the California State Athletic Commission this week. Margarito claims he was unjustly suspended by the Commission for allegedly hiding plaster in the knuckle pad under his gloves in his January 24, 2009 fight against “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
As he was preparing to fight Mosley, the Athletic Commission decided to inspect Margarito’s hands, allegedly finding an “illegal material inside the knuckle pad.” The knuckle pads were confiscated and his hands were re-wrapped.
Margarito lost to Mosely and got his boxing license was suspended for one year after the fight.
