According to a lawsuit filed this week in Los Angeles, Prince cut a U.S. literary agency out of a book deal they negotiated for him. The singer reportedly agreed to be represented by the agency to arrange for distribution of a book documenting his 21-date residency at London’s O2 Arena in 2007. The agency claims Prince chose it as his “exclusive agent with respect to the negotiations of a publishing deal” for a book called “21 Nights” and a special limited edition version.
The lawsuit alleges that, as the deal neared its completion, Prince stopped cooperating with the agency and then finished the negotiations directly, behind the agency’s back. The agency now wants its 15% commission, which they estimate at about $200,000.
