Mel Gibson’s lawyer Robert Kaufman has asked for a change of judge in Gibson’s divorce case. The case has been transferred from Judge Rafael Ongkeko to Judge Frederick Shaller.
California procedural rules allow each side to ask one time for a change of judge within ten days of assignment of the case. So, in reality, this is not that big of a deal. Especially in light of the fact that Kaufman and Robyn Gibson’s lawyer Laura Wasser will likely have the entire case heard by a private judge anyway – pretty typical for high-profile celebs in L.A.
